I Got a SUPER Long Hair Wig Inspired by Kim Kardashian–Here’s What Happened

You read that right, I got a long hair WIG inspired by Kim Kardashian and the infamous Cher and their super duper long hair that’s trending RN. My whole life, I was the girl who rocked super long hair. Then, I had an epiphany about a year ago and decided to do something drastic and chopped my long hair off into a bob. Don’t get me wrong, the short hair was fun. Liberating really–but I’ve had an itch to grow it and right now I’m in that awkward hair stage where it’s neither short nor long. You know what I’m talking about.

It started around last Halloween when I realized Princess Jasmine would be a fun costume (true story). I really began to notice the re-emergence of super long Cher hair, and instantly I wanted my long hair back. Then, Kim Kardashian posted a picture of her with Naomi Campbell rocking super long hair side-by-side, and I knew I needed it. My first thought was extensions..which I did. And, they were great… but it wasn’t the look I wanted. Below is a picture of me with extensions.

I wanted the real deal–super silky, super long, legit Cher hair. So, I immediately hit up my girlfriend Tiarra Monet, who has a hair salon in Chinatown as well as her own wigs  called The Crowned Collection. We have been dying to collaborate on a project together and this felt like the perfect fit. She created an entire lace front wig for me! I am going to be totally honest, I had no idea how the process worked and I learned so much. Look how good it turned out?!

The process of installing the wig on me took roughly four hours (one of it was set up before and after) and to be fair, we chatted a lot and were recording the whole process. I’m still amazed slash obsessed at the outcome. Below is an hour-by-hour overview on how we created my lace-front, long hair wig.

HOUR ONE: CORNROWS

Tiarra started by giving me cornrows to make sure my hair was really pressed down. She told me that the wig was actually made with real Indian hair, so the texture of the two are basically the same. The irony of an Indian hair wig going on Indian hair–I loved it!

HOUR TWO: INSTALLATION

When the wig went on, she cut the lace-front to shape my face, and sewed it in. Honestly, I had no idea that it was going to get sewn in, but it makes complete sense. At this point, I was looking at my hair thinking, this is a great length but the texture wasn’t silky like I had hoped. That’s when hour three came into play.

HOUR THREE: STYLING

Tiarra applied a Chi product into my hair to silk press the hair. Again, a technique I had never done before. With just the product, a blowdryer, and a flat iron, we had our long hair wig completed and I was OBSESSED.

I’m not kidding..the long hair wig made me feel like I was dressed up like a character. The wig even began to impact my wardrobe. I started to dress slightly edgier and have fun with my clothes, which really is what beauty is all about to me.

WEARING THE LACE-FRONT, LONG HAIR WIG

I wore the wig for a solid week and a half.  It hurt the first few days, but I loved how it looked so much that I didn’t care. I low key wanted to keep it on even longer, but Tiarra said it would ruin it in the long run if I didn’t take it off. I had a girlfriend come over and take off the wig, and remembered I still had cornrows underneath! Mind you…this is also a week and a half without washing my hair, which is something I’m definitely not used to doing. Then, I sadly took out the cornrows and I’m still up-in-the-air on whether my love for the Cher hair > the curly outcome, because the curly hair was pretty major as well.

So here I am now, two weeks later, back to my awk phase hair length reminiscing on pictures and the most fun hair transformation I’ve ever had. It’s definitely something I would do again–like I want to do it again next week–and I can’t wait to share the video of the whole wig installation with you guys on my channel in the next few weeks – stay tuned!
