With an Instagram fan base that boasts over 230k followers (all of which are lusting after his relaxed/flawless glam) it’s easy to say that Scotty is one of the most coveted hairdressers in the celebrity circle. That being said we’re extremely grateful he took the time from his busy schedule, to sit down with us and answer a few questions. Take a look at what he had to say below.
How did you get your start in the industry?
My first job in LA was at Starbucks I couldn’t get a job at any salon with out my California hair license and I had just moved from Rhode Island! IM ALWAYS NICE TO MY BARISTA! As soon as I got my license I started out assisting at the Jonathan Salon in Beverly Hills and was on the TV show Blow Out. I thought I was so cool and knew everything, but 4 years later I was still basically assisting AND SO BORED … One of my friends who was leaving the salon told me she was going to work for Andy Lecompte and he was opening a new salon. I knew exactly who he was and was dying to work with him.
I followed her out that day, met with the co owner of the salon Leanne Citrone, and started working there. Literally my life changed as soon as I worked there. I went on tour with Miley Cyrus, got an agent, and started working with Lucy Hale, Nicole Richie, Kristin Cavallari, Ashley Tisdale, and Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, Kris, Kylie, and Kendall Jenner, which I still continue to work with and I love every single one of them and I literally am so lucky that I get to call this my job!
What was one of your biggest career challenges and how did you overcome it?
My biggest career challenge is having to check my bag ALWAYS because of my cutting sheers and full size hair products!
Which hair products or tools are always in your kit?
I can’t live with out Serge Normant Meta Sheer Dry Oil finishing spray. It’s perfect for everything; fly aways, slicking back a pony tail, or the perfect sexy “undone and effortless” wavy texture.
Who are some role models who have inspired you?
My role model is Karl Lagerfeld. He is the epitome of chic and everyone listens to what he says.
What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago or what was the best piece of advice you received?
The best advice I have ever received and would give my self 10 years ago is “Always be yourself.”
