Hair Products for Volume

Whether you get your hair blown out weekly or like to air dry at home, it’s safe to say that limp, flat hair is out and bouncy full hair is in! To get lift at the root that stays and extra volume, we asked Jessica Gillin from Marie Robinson Salon in NYC to share her favorite tools and products.

FINE HAIR

Volume for Fine Hair

“Fine hair should be blown out with a volumizer. I like Queen for a Day by Bed Head. It gives the hair guts to hold a style. This can be applied root to end while hair is wet, then blowdry with a boar bristle brush.”

MEDIUM TEXTURE

Medium Hair Volume

“Mousses are great for medium hair. They give bounce, body, and shine. I like Phyto Intense Volume Mousse. Apply this wet and blowdry with a round brush either ceramic or boar.”

THICK HAIR

Volumizing Products for Thick Hair

“For thick corse hair, I like to mix and oil with a holding cream. Bumble and bumble’s Invisible Oil is really nice for smoothing without feeling heavy, and Oribe Creme For Style is great for hold. Mix the two together and apply root to end while hair is wet. Blowdry with a ceramic brush.”

FINISH

Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray

Oribe Impermeable Anti Humidity Spray adds texture and protects against frizz. It is amazing.”

What can a client do at home in the following days to help maintain the blow-dry?

“I think sleeping with your hair in braids is key. Part hair down the center in the back and either braid hair or twist away from the face into 2 pigtail braids. Leave a good 2 to 3 inches out on the bottom after securing with an elastic so that the ends stay straighter and the middle has bend.”
