The holidays. It’s a time of love, it’s a time of cheer, and it’s a time to catch up on all those books you tried reading this year but couldn’t finish! Whether you’re traveling to be with family or simply enjoying the vacation days away from the grind, the point is there’s extra downtime to be utilized. Even when it comes to reading, we prefer the hair-obsessed. Here’s a list of recommended reading for all you Mane Addicts to delve into this holiday season…
HAIR: FASHION AND FANTASY
by Laurent Phillippon
This book gives so much cultural context behind the status and symbolism of hair styling and it’s expressive capabilities throughout time and in various parts of the world, while still showcasing the creative minds impacting and expressing the world today.

GRACE: A MEMOIR
by Grace Coddington
Ok, so this isn’t exactly hair-realted — guilty as charged. But it qualifies somewhere in the mix of the fact that her fluffy orange hair is her trademark look, she’s married to one of the industry’s most influential hairdressers (Didier Malige) and she tells the unique story of how she got to where she is today: being the creative genius behind Vogue magazine.
TECHNIQUE AND ART OF MARCEL WAVING: CREATING 1920’s HAIR WAVING STYLES IN SIX STEPS
by William F. Zentler
This is a staple read for any professional hair stylist. If you want to recreate those classic red carpet looks, this book is a great point of reference. It reminds you of how to properly use your marcel irons and the different wave patterns that you’re capable of creating. It was a book that one of my mentors in Los Angeles (Mane Master Nikki Providence) gave to me last Christmas before I moved to New York. ❤️
