In between washes and salon visits, hair health upkeep is essential. The quickest and most effective way to stay on top of your strands, you ask? We’re talking hair mists—light, water-based, sweet-scented revitalizers that don’t cost a fortune. Hair mists are travel-friendly and easy peasy to whip up at home. Ahead, three recipes for hair mists that are just as good as store-bought ones.

1. FOR MOISTURE

The ultimate everyday mist, this is an all-in-one detangler and hair softener.

What you’ll need:

  • Spray bottle
  • ¼  cup Aloe vera juice
  • ½ cup Water
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tsp Jojoba oil
  • A dime size of your favorite conditioner (optional)
  • Shake it all up and store in refrigerator for up to 5 days

Ingredient 411: Aloe vera is a natural healer, which means hydration and protection. The oils seal in the moisture of your cuticles. If your hair is prone to severe dryness, add a drop of your favorite conditioner into the mix for maximum moisture.

2. TO REFRESH

Perfect for a midday pick-me-up or a post-workout refresher, this mist will give your hair that just-washed feeling.

What you’ll need:

  • Spray bottle
  • ¼ cup green tea
  • ½ cup distilled water
  • 1-2 drops of peppermint oil
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tsp tea tree oil
  • Shake it all up and store in refrigerator for up to 5 days

Ingredient 411: Green tea is full of antioxidants, which makes it our hair health bff. You can use regular water in this, but we recommend distilled water for that pure, refreshing, “ahhh” effect. Tea tree oil’s anti-fungal properties relieves the scalp of irritation and itch, while the peppermint oil stimulates your roots with a feel-good tingly sensation.

3. FOR SHINE

Floral-scented and vitamin-rich, this one’s going to give your tresses that vibrant, sexy shine you thought only existed in commercials (no joke).

What you’ll need:

  • Spritzer bottle
  • ⅓  cup of distilled water
  • 3 tablespoons rose water
  • 3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel or 2-3 drops of aloe vera oil
  • 2 tsp of olive oil
  • 2 tsp of almond oil
  • Shake it up and keep in cool area for up to 5 days

Ingredient 411: The rosewater and aloe vera combo reduces frizz and ups hydration. Almond oil contains superpower ingredients like omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, which nourishes from the inside, resulting in glossy locks. Plus, olive oil is rich in antioxidants and helps combat hair loss.
