Don’t let being a beach-babe get you down. The sun and pool may be damaging, but recovery is easy with these 5 post-pool, hair maintenance must-haves…
1. THE RIGHT SHAMPOO
Chlorine chemically bonds to your hair so you can’t rely on your regular shampoo and conditioner combo to rid your hair of the nasty stuff. TRISWIM Chlorine/Salt Water Out Shampoo, which contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, is popular with regular swimmers, but any clarifying shampoo will do the trick.
2. DEEP CONDITION
Once the chemicals are removed, use a deep conditioner to kick-start the necessary replenishment of your hair’s moisture. Davines Momo Conditioner is formulated specifically for dehydrated hair and works in just 4 minutes.
The chlorine (or salt) in pool water is known to strip your hair of natural oils that moisturize your strands and protect them from damage so after you’ve washed and rinsed, it’s best to add some lubrication before you go anywhere near a brush. Klorane makes a great leave-in detangling spray. It’s gentle and soothing and made with Oat Milk.
4. BRUSH IT GOOD, BRUSH IR RIGHT
When its time to brush, reach for something that’s made for wet hair detangling because even with detangler, you hair will still be brittle. The original Tangle Teezer is compact and convenient and most importantly; flexible, so it minimizes hair breakage and cuticle damage.
While your hair is still damp, work a nutrient rich hair oil (like Bumble and Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil) onto your ends. Your thirsty hair will soak up the moisture and you’ll avoid frizz, flyaways or further damage throughout the day.
