The gel-filled succulent will sooth patches and reduce inflammation, especially those prone to cracking and bleeding. The sunburn aid is said to contain glucomannan which encourages collagen.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar, one of our favorite DIY hair remedies for removing product and dirt buildup on the scalp, also works to alleviate irritation from scalp psoriasis, thanks to its antiseptic properties. Combine two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a half cup of water then apply to your psoriasis patches for 15-20 minutes. Avoid this recipe if you have any cracked or bleeding areas on the scalp as it could sting.
Baking Soda + Castor Oil
According to So Long Psoriasis, a paste made from baking soda and castor oil can help loose scales caused from scalp psoriasis. Mix 1/3 baking soda and 2/3 castor oil and apply it to plaque areas. The recipe suggests leaving it on for about half an hour and wrapping it in saran wrap to avoid it getting on everything. Gently brush it off with a moist towel when you’re done.
Coal Tar Psoriasis Shampoo
If the DIY route isn’t your thing, try this psoriasis community cult favorite. Made with 5% coal tar, an ingredient proved to control and eliminate psoriasis symptoms, the PsoriaTrax Anti-Dandruff Tar Shampoo reduces an itchy, flaky scalp while keeping inflamed areas under control.
Psoriasis Honey Skin-Renewing Cream
Another store-bought scalp psoriasis savior is the Psoriasis Honey Skin-Renewing Cream, full of organic beeswax for moisture, organic sunflower oil for antioxidants, and salicylic acid which promotes the turnover of dead skin cells. Though it’s not a cure-all, the cream will help manage your psoriasis. Use it as a skin mask around the hair line or on patches on or near the scalp.
