6 Forgotten Y2K Trends Dominated the 2000s – Would You Wear Them Now?

Y2K style is having a little bit of a renaissance. Just check TikTok.

But is evert 2000s trend worth reviving? Butterfly clips and chunky highlights might be here to stay…but low-rise jeans and crimped hair might be better left behind. With 2022 on the horizon, we’re taking a closer look at the 2000s comeback trends that dominated this year, and asking “should we really wear this?”

From hair bling to pigtails, these six Y2K trends are in review below.

1. Hair Bling

Bedazzled, blinged out strands made major waves back in the day. Looks like Bella Hadid is bringing it back (in a pretty chic way). We’re kind of on board with this one, to be honest.

2. Textured Buns

Slicked back strands with a textured bun – very Y2K. Check out Dua Lipa’s modern take on the aesthetic here. This one can come into 2022.

3. Pigtails

It’s Britney, bitch. Complete with chunky accessories, pigtails are totally 2000s and very, very chic.

4. Baby Braids

Baby braids, tiny twists, garnished with a bit of color. This look is giving us Christina energy. We’d definitely still wear this today.

5. Chunky Highlights

This one is a classic – bleach blonde highlights in stark, dark hair. Should we take this one into the new year? We’re still pretty into it.

6. Crimped Hair

Itty, bitty waves practically defined the decade from 2000-2010. But are these micro-plaits really worth it in this day and age?
