8 Things You Need to Know Before Using Showerless Shampoo

Showerless shampoo shouldn’t be confused with dry shampoo.

Showerless shampoo actually serves as a replacement to your traditional in-shower shampoo sesh, where as dry shampoo soaks up excess oil so you can go longer in between washes without looking like a grease ball. To further clarify the difference between the two – and when and how to use each – we talked with the founders of new brand SWAIR, Carrie Sporer and Meredith Krill, for the breakdown on how their showerless alternative works and why they developed it in the first place.

Searching for a Quick Fix – Slowly

It took the founders over a decade of friendship and complaining that they couldn’t find the right product to clean their hair quickly after a run or a workout to decide they would create a solution for themselves. The development of the product was much faster, however, than the time spent wanting to create it, and it only took 11 months (and many iterations) to go from initial concept to launch. Because neither Carrie or Meredith had a background in chemistry they had to focus on finding a lab that could create a clean formula without sacrificing results and creating SWAIR Showerless Shampoo. “There was a lot of trial and error, but we are thrilled with the final result,” they share.

Loosen the Grime

The technology in Showerless Shampoo works by loosening the dirt/sweat/daily grime from the surface of the hair follicles and scalp. “Then, you can towel dry your hair to actually lift away the dirt. The coating remains active on your hair so you can towel dry again without adding more product if you’re in need of a midday touch up. It’s a total game-changer,” they explain.

Squalene Does the Trick

The Showerless Shampoo works its magic through a combination of all the ingredients – though the hero is squalane. Squalane acts as a moisturizing agent in Showerless Shampoo, helping to add shine and prevent breakage. And like most formulations, it’s set apart based on what it doesn’t include – the brand is vegan, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, formaldehyde-free, and free from artificial dyes.

Eventually You Need Water

“SWAIR’s formula is gentle enough for daily use, but you’ll have to wash your hair in the shower at some point!” say Carrie and Meredith, though how often depends on your hair type. If your hair tends to be oily, you can probably get 1-2 additional days between traditional shampoos. Though others have said that they only wash their hair in the shower once a week after adding Showerless Shampoo to their routine. Carrie shares that she gets super sweaty when working out — and even sweats in her sleep. “I went from washing my hair 5 days a week to twice a week by using Showerless Shampoo all other days,” she says.

Marathon Training

SWAIR,100%, came from personal need. “We met marathon training in 2007, and after the race we continued to work out together most mornings. We loved the physical and emotional benefits of working out regularly but shampooing our hair in the shower after every single sweat session got old fast.

We tried dozens of products over the years, but never found anything that left our hair feeling shower-clean. We knew we couldn’t be the only people with this problem, so we decided to create the dream product that was missing from our routine,” Carrie and Meredith share of facilitating the need.

More Products in the Works

The duo plans to continue to create revolutionary hair products for people that workout with a focus on innovative time saving and multi-tasking products. “There are a few exciting things in development for 2021, but one of the things we love about being a small company is communicating directly with our customers to hear what they want next from us and what is on their haircare wish list.”

SWAIR Prioritizes Sustainability

Sustainability is prioritized for SWAIR and the team chooses packaging and materials that are made from recycled materials or can be recycled. As well as reducing excess packaging, the product cuts back excess water waste. “By using Showerless Shampoo, customers are saving a significant amount of water over time. We’ve crunched the numbers and by cleaning your hair out of the shower just twice a week, you save over 300 gallons of water each year,” Carrie and Meredith explain.
