We’re only few days into fashion month, but Alexander Wang has already set the mane bar high. For Fall 2017, Alexander Wang showed his collection at the graffiti-filled RKO Hamilton Theater in Harlem, where Redken’s Global Creative Director, Guido Palau, debuted a slew of ’90s-inspired hair cuts including the good ‘ol mushroom cut, tomboyish pixies, bowl cuts and bobs. The inspiration for the style is all about the “individual beauties and girls that take their own risks,” says Guido.
About six or so models got major hair cuts for the show, including Catherine McNeil who arguably underwent the biggest transformation from long locks to a Linda Evangelista-inspired look.
Model Iriska Kravchenko sported a serious mushroom cut featuring short bangs and softly rounded edges.
And Sohyun Jung gave us major Jenny Shimizu vibes with her short, textured pixie.
But not everyone underwent the big chop in Wang’s show–Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid showcased distressed, textured waves with an effortless, “slept-in” feel. To create the look, Palau used Redken’s Wax Blast to make the hair look piece-y, and then used a one-inch curling iron to bend the hair into loose waves.
And models in the show weren’t the only ones who got in on the trend, Kylie Jenner sat front row with a textured, shaggy bob similar to the cuts on the runway.
These ’90s haircuts are the talk of the town here at New York Fashion Week and we predict this trend will have legs throughout the rest of fashion month. The big question now is, will YOU get a major mane chop and try out this trend? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
