Everything to Know About Beer Shampoo—Yes, It’s a Thing

When we think of beer, quick images of baseball games, burgers and dive bars come to mind—certainly not hair.

In fact, if anything, we think of beer as something that would dry the hair out. But apparently such is not the case.

We recently attended one of our favorite annual events, Indie Beauty Expo, where we were introduced to Bröö, a vegan and cruelty-free line of craft beer hair care. Below is everything we learned through the brand about this surprising ingredient.

The Brewing Process Is Key

“Through the magic of the brewing process, thousands of natural chemical reactions occur, and the barley, hops, yeast and water are turned into a beverage that’s hopping with B vitamins, proteins and minerals,” Bröö states on its website.

No, You Won’t Walk Out of the Shower Smelling Like a Brewery

In the case of Bröö (and likely any beer-based hair care brand to follow), there’s no trace of a beer scent to be found in its products. Bröö’s aroma is 100% natural, with notes of bamboo, lemon, gingerlily and wood.

Beer Is Far From the Only Ingredient in Beer Shampoo

We’ve never applied beer fresh from a bottle, directly onto our locks, but we imagine the results would differ greatly if the beverage weren’t combined with plenty of other nutrient-heavy ingredients.

Bröö, for example, is made up of almost 30 (!) ingredients, including everything from caffeine and citric acid, to glycerin and xanthan gum.
