The 73rd Annual Emmy Awards took place last night in Los Angeles and many awards were given out—duh, that’s how these things work. While there were some we were over the moon about (hello, Michaela Coel winning an Emmy in writing for the masterpiece that is I May Destroy You), we mainly watched for the hairstyles. Can you blame us? There were a handful that really stood out to us, so we wanted to share them with you. Below, find the best Emmy’s 2021 hair moments—well, according to us! Which look do you love most?
The Cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race
We expect excellence from the likes of RuPlaul, Michelle Visage, Gottmik, and America’s reigning Drag Superstar Symone. Of course, they delivered. Michelle’s thick gray money piece highlight, Gottmik’s punky space buns, Symone’s elegant high ponytail—no one is doing it like this cast.
The Queen’s Gambit star Moses Ingram was not holding back with her ponytail game on the Emmy’s red carpet. The mix of silver hair jewelry cascading down the length of the pony and the surprise undercut design are a match made in hair heaven. Hairstylist Amber Shani deserves all the praise for her work on this look.
Moses’s co-star also did not disappoint on the Emmy’s red carpet. But does she ever? We’re head over heels for Anya Taylor-Joy’s curly updo done by hairstylist Gregory Russell.
Hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood really outdid herself with this low halo braided hairstyle on Insecure‘s Issa Rae. While everyone was obsessing over the grill, we couldn’t stop staring at this look. Once you see the back in Felicia’s IG Gallery below, you’ll understand why.
Taraji P. Henson
Tym Wallace and Albert Morrison were the dynamic duo behind Taraji P. Henson’s stunning curly updo. Those coils are as defined as they could be. And you want to know the secret as to why? Taraji’s very own hair line, TPH by Taraji.
Tracee Ellis Ross
Keeping on the theme of gorgeous curls, Tracee Ellis Ross’s voluminous coils are a true work of art. And that isn’t surprising at all, especially knowing the founder and CEO of Curl Queen herself, Nai’vasha, worked her magic on Tracee’s ringlets.
This Is Us actress Mandy Moore’s wavy ponytail and bangs combo is as sweet and romantic as she is. We love this feminine style created by Ashley Streicher, so much so that we may need to recreate it oursevles.
Nicole Byer looked like royalty waltzing down the Emmy’s red carpet this year. Her bouncy Brigitte Bardot-inspired updo was created by Moira “Gingaz” Frazier and it is pure perfection.
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez
We love a good mermaid wave. Pose actress Michaele Jaé Rodriguez’s luscious locks were brought to us by Tym Wallace as well. You can never go wrong with some extra length.
