Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp Care Shampoo: $7.99
Manchester-based trichologist Kate Holden notes how critical it is to treat the problems that impede hair growth with the right shampoo. “These shampoos don’t increase hair growth, but they can help with problems that can impact the hair as explained below,” she says.
One of her top picks is Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp Care Shampoo. “This shampoo contains piroctone olamine, which helps to fight dandruff and itchiness that can make us scratch our scalp. Scratching the scalp can cause infections and hair breakage,” Kate shares.
Philip Kingsley No Scent No Colour Shampoo: $31
Kate notes that those with sensitive skin likely also have a sensitive scalp. To care for it, Kate recommends using “a fragrance-free shampoo like this one to help minimize skin reactions that can impact hair growth.”
Tresemmé Pro Pure Micellar Moisture Shampoo: $5.99
Excess buildup on the scalp, whether that be product or oil, can prevent your strands from growing as they should. For those who struggle with buildup, Kate says “using a clarifying shampoo will help to clean the scalp.” Her favorite? Tresemmé Pro Pure Micellar Moisture Shampoo. The micellar water gently cleanses the scalp, providing moisture and shine without weighing down your strands.
Cucinello Beauty Plush Perfecting Shampoo: $42
New York City dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak highly recommends this shampoo because of the ingredients it doesn’t contain. “There’s no Sodium Lauryl Sulfates (SLS), no parabens, silicons, gluten, soy etc.”
What this shampoo does contain that makes it worth the splurge is rice bran oil extract, “which reduces inflammation in the scalp and keeps it very calm.” Dr. Russak “loves this shampoo because it will keep the scalp from tightening up too much. At the same time, it doesn’t have heavy waxes or oils that will clog the hair follicle or weigh it down. So, it helps to keep the hair follicle growing up and out and it doesn’t strangle the hair so the hair gets to grow through a full growth cycle.”
Nioxin Shampoo: $20
“Nioxin is a shampoo brand that is meant to stimulate hair growth and more geared for someone whose hair is falling out or thinning,” Dr. Russak shares. “If you’re looking to volumize hair or to stimulate hair growth, to help hair grow longer, then this product is for you.”
CTFO Hair Growth System With AnaGain: $199.97
Board-certified trichologist Shanae Starnes recommends much more than a single shampoo for hair growth. She suggests investing in an entire hair growth system, specifically CTFO’s Hair Growth System With AnaGain.
“AnaGain stimulates specific signal molecules in the hair to reactivate and promote hair growth,” she says. “AnaGain combined with 50mg-100mg of CBD per container helps to give your hair the nourishment and stimulation needed to grow fuller and thicker.”
John Amico Professional Haircare Bio-Vita-Tin Shampoo: $21
A shampoo Shanae can’t recommend enough is the John Amico Professional Haircare Bio-Vita-Tin Shampoo. Not only is it color safe, sulfate-free, and paraben-free, it contains essential vitamins to stimulate growth and promote thickness.
The Mane Choice Tropical Moringa Sweet Oil & Honey Endless Moisture Shampoo: $14.99
Boho Locs founder Lulu Pierre loves this shampoo from The Mane Choice. You could say it’s her main choice.
“This shampoo is an ultra-hydrating formula that is power-packed with essential vitamins and Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil that helps to deeply penetrate your scalp with vital moisture and nutrients to improve shine, strength, and manageability,” Lulu raves.
Alikay Naturals Caribbean Coconut Milk Shampoo: $13.99
Moisture is key for hair growth, which is why Lulu recommends this shampoo.
“I love this shampoo because it will properly cleanse your scalp and hair without drying it out,” she shares. “The coconut oil will nourish dry and damaged hair while replenishing moisture from root to tip. If you’re experiencing hair loss, using a shampoo with coconut oil is great because the ingredient helps to slow down hair loss.”
Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Wash: $15
Calling all curly-haired folks, this is a great option for you.
“This is a very rich and creamy sulfate-free cleanser that can soften even the driest, most damaged curls,” Lulu points out. “It’s made with Blueberry Extract, Aloe Leaf Juice, and Chamomile Extract, which are all key ingredients to help rehydrate the scalp, which encourages healthy hair growth.”
Matrix Biolage CleanReset Normalizing Shampoo: $20
Naturally Drenched founder Jamila Powell insists on using a clarifying shampoo to get rid of buildup that may block hair growth.
“Cleansing and clarifying the scalp is critical if you want to remove the dirt and oil that builds up on your scalp,” she notes. “Removing the buildup will allow for healthy hair growth, as your hair products can better penetrate the scalp.” This is why she recommends the Matrix Biolage CleanReset Normalizing Shampoo.
Naturally Drenched Rebalance: $36
Rebalance from Naturally Drenched “is a pre-conditioner treatment that helps maintain a healthy pH level on your scalp, and also aids in reducing flakes, and decreasing itchiness,” Jamila says. “The treatment creates an environment where your natural oils can promote growth, while also fighting off bacteria. Rebalance also contains antioxidants and Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which rebuild hair, repair existing damage, and reduce inflammation.”
You can’t go wrong with this miracle treatment!
