Caviar, 24k gold, you name it—we love nothing more than a fancy ingredient in our hair care. But while these top-notch additions may cost a pretty penny or sound ultra chic, it’s important that they actual perform.
The latest I put to the test? Black truffle. While oil from the pricey mushroom is the perfect accompaniment to pretty much any food except cereal, it’s nothing I was familiar with in the beauty department. But when a rep for Moroccan Gold Series reached out about the brand’s new Black Truffle Collection, I immediately felt compelled to test out the set.
Keep reading for everything you need to know about the four-product collection!
Moroccan Gold Series Black Truffle Shampoo: $24.99
Sorry, foodies! You won’t step out of the shower smelling like a decadent Italian dish with this gentle, deep-cleansing shampoo boosted with nutrient-dense black truffle extract. But something tells me that’s probably (hopefully) not what you were anticipating. You will, however, help regenerate dry, damaged hair and keep your strands healthy, shiny, and smooth.
Moroccan Gold Series Black Truffle Mask: $44
Packed with omega-rich shea butter, olive oil, wheat germ oil, flax oil and Vitamins A, D, and E, this three-minute hair mask rejuvenates, hydrates, smooths and strengthens. The black truffle formula has an added boost of extract-filled microcapsules to release an extra dose of nutrients when massaged into hair and scalp.
This serves as the conditioning step. The first time I used it, I followed the three-minute guidelines and proceeded with the leave-in mask and found that the combination weighed down my hair a bit. Moving forward, I opted to use one or the other. When I go ahead with the three-minute mask, I leave it on for 10 minutes instead of three, and then go straight to the serum.
Moroccan Gold Series Black Truffle Leave-In Mask: $30
As mentioned above, I strongly advise against using this product in conjunction with the three-minute truffle mask. If you’re planning to wear your hair up or let it air dry, stick with the rinse-out mask. But if you plan to style your hair, opt for this leave-in, as it works as a heat protectant and pre-styling spray in addition to a conditioner.

Moroccan Gold Series Serum: $44
For an extra boost of shine and color, this ultra-light, instantly absorbed hair oil also nourishes, smoothes, strengthens and de-frizzes. The sulfate-free product helps prevent breakage and split ends, and protects from humidity. This is the final step of the collection, and it can be applied right after your rinse or as a hydrating midday touch-up.
