As a stylist who’s been in the industry for 10 years, I’ve spent a lot of time on my feet. With the desire to look good but feel comfortable when working on clients, it can be hard to pick the right pair of shoes. If you’re looking for a fresh set of kicks, check out these fashionable yet functional favorites.
These platform chucks are one of my favorite pairs of working shoes. Platforms have become my go to in general, but these Lugged Leather Chucks are particularly amazing due to the slip-resistant sole and easy to clean outer shell. I opted for these in black due to all the hair and hair color flying around. Bonus points, they look great in any season and with nearly any outfit.

I’ve been a Doc Marten fan forever now, and while I may be partial to the knee-high style, ankle height Docs are perfect for work and easier to slip on and off. These boots are great for stylists as they are easy to clean and they keep hair, color, and chemicals from in between your toes. Doc Marten’s are my go to in the cooler months, though they do look amazing paired with a jean jacket and babydoll dress. I own these in smooth black, and the platform version in a rustic brown.

Low Heel: Steve Madden Mules
I love to feel the sun on my feet in the Summer months, but as a stylist, I cannot deal with hair splinters between my toes (yes, these do exist and they are awful). Cut to these deliciously 90s clogs from Steve Madden. These mules are perfect for warmer months as they keep things cool and breezy with an open back, while still covering the toes. The heel is low enough to stand on all day, and they look amazing with a jumpsuit.

Slip Ons: Vans Slip-On Platforms
I know I keep saying “these shoes are my favorite,” but these shoes really have become my favorite. This updated take on the Classic Vans Slip-On features a platform sole, making these shoes way comfier than I remember. I wore the Vans OG Slip-Ons every day as a kid and the platform sole truly makes a difference. In my years behind the chair, I’ve found that having a slightly elevated yet even sole makes the day much easier on my feet. Bonus points for these slipping on and off your feet with complete ease, so getting home and “kicking off your shoes” is now literal. I own these in the classic black and white checker, as well as a custom pair with orange piping. I usually wear these with more casual outfits, or when I’m running from the salon to the beauty supply store.

No Lace Boot: Madden Girl Chelsea Boot
If combat boots aren’t your thing, Chelsea Boots are a lower-key, alternative to the ankle boot. Great for cooler months but cute all year, the shining star of these shoes is the sole. Slip resistant shoes that are actually cute are Queen in the salon world. Again, these boots are easy to clean and will keep your feet protected, all while looking great with pants, jeans, jumpsuits, skirts, dresses….pretty much everything and anything!
