You know how when you get a salon blowout, the stylist has a dryer in one hand and a brush in another. They delicately weave the brush over the dryer in an elaborate dance that seems honestly very complicated to recreate at home, with your own two hands. Because it’s this brush–dryer combo that plays a crucial role in taming frizz and allowing you to skip the flatiron, we’ve always wanted to live in a world where this was easier to do, without a cosmetology degree. Leave it to Dyson to spare us from this game with their Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Flyaway attachment, which mechanizes the professional stylists’ technique to smooth tresses without extreme heat. Learn all about the revolutionary attachment below!
How It Works
The attachment works by attracting and lifting longer hairs, moving flyaways out of the way and into the hair. And by hiding and blending flyaways, hair looks smoother and shinier. “Our obsession with airflow led us to push the potential of Coanda after observing how stylists use a ‘brush and blow dryer’ technique to smooth flyaways,” explains Emma Sheldon, Dyson Hair Care Category Director.
“Traditionally, this skilled technique involves these stylists using a round brush to section and manage the hair, whilst directing airflow from the dryer to push the flyaways into the style and out of sight. We set out to find a way to innovate a way to mechanize this method for the everyday styler. The new Dyson Flyaway Attachment harnesses the phenomenon of Coanda to smooth flyaways out of sight, without exposing the hair to extreme heat damage,” she continues.
Salon at Home
Jen Atkin, Mane Addicts founder, Kardashian go-to, and Dyson Global Styling Ambassador breaks down the technique in a tool. “I think we can all agree that flyaway frustration is real! Nothing feels as good as that salon blow dry finish. The trick to tame annoying flyaways is a core skill for a stylist. However, we want our clients to now be able to get that same glossy finish at home. Dyson’s latest attachment does exactly that—it allows smooth seekers to get a super sleek finish, on their own, not just from the salon.”
