This Just In: The Biggest Braid Trends You Need to Try This Fall

We’re days away from the change in seasons we all desperately need. Fall is almost here and that means it’s time to try out some new fall hair trends on our strands. While there are a ton of cuts and colors we’re eager to sport, we wanted to take this time to specifically highlight some of the best fall braid trends. Beautybeez braid stylist Geneva Fowler and Naturally Drenched founder Jamila Powell gave us the rundown on all the braid trends we can expect to see this year. And trust us, they’re all so good. Get ready to upgrade your summer braids for fall!

Coi Leray Braids

As far as braid trends go, Powell is convinced Coi Leray braids are going to be huge. “These braids are such a fun, trendy, unique look, and the best part is that you can put your own spin on them and tailor them specifically to your personal style and taste,” she tells us.

For those unfamiliar with the style, Powell notes they “are jumbo knotless braids with curly ends.” Yes, it’s literally the cutest hairstyle ever.

Upgraded French Braids

French braids never go out of style. This year, Powell notes we’ll see “French braids that are played up with braided rope accents or fun accessories.” Time to go big or go home with your French braids this year. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.

“I’m really interested in seeing the new takes on the classic French braids,” Powell says. “There are so many fun ways to dress up a simple braid, so I think we’ll see a lot of creative options here. I also love accessories and embellishments, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this takes off.”

Baby Bubble Braids

Bubble braids have been enjoying their time in the spotlight this year and last. And that will continue. “We’ll see baby bubble braids everywhere,” Powell shares. “Think Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber. It’s a fun, simple look that anyone can do.”

Beaded Enhancements

Break out the beads, of all varieties. These are about to be the hottest embellishment for every type of braided hairstyle. “We’ll definitely see a lot of beaded enhancements, like knotless braids with beads at the end,” Powell notes. The more beads, the merrier.

Fun Shape Designs

Fowler tells us that fun-shaped braids are going to be a big fall trend. “I’ve been seeing them more and more—hearts, stars, or even butterfly-shaped braids and cornrows. They’re so cute and I feel like you can really get creative with the look. It’s such a fun way to express yourself,” she notes. We definitely agree with her as well. Adding some fun shapes to your braids will really help you stand out.

Fulani Braids

Fulani braids are set to be incredibly popular for fall. The style gained popularity last year and will continue to be all over Instagram, worn by just about everyone.

Fowler shares that “Fulani braids are braids that have a cornrow design in front and individual braids in the back,” for those who needed the reference. She’s a big fan of this style as well, noting “I love them because having your face be the center of attention makes you Iook super confident, and when you look confident, you feel confident. To me, these styles look like royalty.”

Classic Fall Colors

When it comes to colors, Powell and Fowler agree that classic fall colors are going to be the go-to hues for fall.

“Going into the fall, we can definitely expect to see the classic colors: deep red, burgundy, violet, plum, etc.,” Powell says. “I think copper will have a big moment this fall.”

“I’m expecting to see all the different shades of reds, browns, and blacks coming back,” Fowler shares. “These are timeless and classic colors for autumn. With all the Y2K nostalgia trends going on this summer, I think everyone is ready for lower-maintenance hair colors that match the cozy and spooky vibes that come with fall.”

Bold Hue Braids

Powell notes we may also see some braids that dare to be bold in their shades as we venture back into the world.

“I think that we’ll also see a lot of bold, unexpected colors as people change up their look going into a new season and re-entering society after a year of doing their hair at home,” she says.
