Let me take a second to talk about the brilliant brand Frigg. It’s just brimming with miraculous potions for the hair and skin that fight the impacts of stress on your body.
The main ingredient in their products is hemp, the ultimate adaptogen for bringing your body back into balance. It not only strengthens your strands, but also has incredible mood-boosting properties. I had the privilege of sitting down with the brand’s founder, Kimberly Dillon who was kind enough to share an inside look at the brand and provide me with a sample of the hair potion to try for myself. Check out what she had to share below and my thoughts on the product!
MA: Tell us a bit more about Frigg. What inspired you to want to create this brand?
Kimberly Dillon: I helped grow one of the largest cannabis wellness brands in the industry and I was burning out. Can you imagine working in an Industry that promotes ‘chill‘ and you are the one that was stressed out? My scalp was on fire and my edges were thinning and ugh, the dreaded dry spots. I actually lost my luggage and had a random tester bottle of CBD that we were testing for addressing anxiety in my carry on, and I figured why not try it on my scalp. It was just CBD oil and a bunch of herbs so I thought, why not? Two weeks later, my scalp was restored and everyone was talking about how clear my complexion was. And that was the ‘aha’ moment. I could tap into the power of cannabis for inner and outer wellness.
Frigg tackles the impacts of stress on the hair and skin using adaptogens and cannabinoids like CBD. Specifically, stress can cause a number of conditions to flare up mainly –psoriasis, dandruff, dryness and overall irritation of the scalp. Cannabinoids can serve as a powerful anti-inflammatory that balances out sebum production and relieves pain or irritation. A lot of people don’t know this because of the stigma around cannabis, but one of the reasons why it is so powerful, is because wait for it, our bodies make endocannabinoids and Cannabis makes phytocannabinoids. CBD is just one of 100 phytocannabinoids and many have therapeutic value. I named the company because I have a slight obsession with comic books, and Frigg, is Thor’s mom in the Marvel movies. In Viking mythology, she is the goddess of wisdom and intuition. Real-life Vikings who revered her were found in burial grounds with cannabis and gold. Two of my favorite things!
MA: We love that your products aim to help people soothe stress naturally. What are some of your favorite holistic products (your own and other brands) you use in your daily routine?
KD: We sold out of our beauty rest tea which has CBD and adaptogenic herbs like chamomile, ashwagandha, and skullcap. It really calms me down and puts me right to sleep. Added bonus, I also used the cooled brew as a hair rinse to fortify my strands. I also love Hanah One. This is my natural Adderall, it gives me both focus and energy for the whole day. I add a teaspoon to my coffee or smoothie and boom, I can clean the baseboards of my apartment for hours like it’s nobodie’s business. It’s been a godsend for my ADD. I am really into body brushing lately and this marbled body brush from Gilded. Cleopatra vibes for the win.
MA: How does stress effect your hair? What do you think are the best ways to keep it strong amidst tough times?
KD: Stress and burnout do so many horrible things to the hair. When we are stressed, our bodies produce hormones like cortisol that can stop the production of many of the building blocks of healthy hair like Collagen and Keratin. Stress can also cause the hair follicle to stay in a resting state, resulting in thinner hair and worse hair loss. The thing that is wild, is that all of this is on a time delay. Often times you see the impacts months after the stress occurs. So managing our stress levels needs to be a daily practice. Luckily, CBD helps balance cortisol levels in the body.
Stress is a normal part of life, but as a society, we can all work on being more balanced. Self-care is really positioned as a luxury and a candlelit bath. It can be that, but real self-care happens every day and is not a treat. Resting and listening to your body should happen every day. Little things like spending time with yourself, whether that’s meditation or listening to music, or just dancing in the mirror (which I call exercise). Being well-rested, celebrating with friends, moving the body and eating better are all ways we can love and heal our bodies.
MA: What are the biggest benefits of your Attuning Hair Potion?
KD: As our base, we use Babob oil and Castor oil to rehydrate the scalp and the skin. One of the cool things about the potion is that you can use it as a scalp oil, hair oil and a booster with your favorite conditioners/hair masks. The CBD and the lesser-known but thought to be more potent CBG tackles the inflammation and also soothes the tension from tight or overworked scalps. I wear a lot of wigs, extensions, and don’t even talk to me about how much I color my hair. I put my hair through it. There is nothing more soothing than the scent of peppermint and rosemary, not to mention the pain-relieving aspects of the oil. Our essential oil blend includes Rosemary and Cedarwood to stimulate hair follicles and promote growth and it gives off the most amazing scent in the shower!
My Review of the Attuning Hair Potion:
When you check out this elixir, you’ll notice it’s labeled as a tonic of dreams. I can say with full confidence that description is 1000% accurate. After just days of using this product, I noticed a massive difference in my brittle, thirsty quarantine locks. Due to my birth control, I’ve noticed my hair has a harder time absorbing and retaining moisture. If you’re in the same boat, then this is something essential to add to your regular routine.
My strands were noticeably softer and smoother with far less frizz at the roots. Big, puffy roots have always been an issue for me, but after using this treatment, they were much calmer and more polished. What I love most about the potion is how versatile it is. It can be used as a simple scalp treatment by apply a few drops at the roots or as a hair oil for your entire head. It can also function as a leave-in treatment for an added boost, which I experimented with and loved. It made styling breezy and effortless, two words that usually never apply to my type of hair😅. Bottom line, 10 out of 10 would recommend.
