As part of our series, Hair-apy Sesh, we’re asking the hair industry’s most-trusted mavens to divulge their secrets about what products get lifted from their kit, their idea of the most overrated and underrated hair tricks, plus their favorite high-price-tag and drugstore buys that confidently carry them through their bustling careers.

What’s the most stolen product from your kit?
What’s the most underrated hair hack or trick?
Sleeping with a silk pillowcase. It’s good for your hair and even better for your skin.
What’s the most overrated hair hack or trick?
Don’t scream, but hairspray for flyaways. I actually prefer pomades. Hairspray sometimes leaves the hair too dry and stiff. Pomades get rid of the flyaways, but still leave the hair soft and natural.
What’s one expensive product that’s worth every penny?
I am obsessed with my GHD Platinum Styler, it’s definitely worth every penny. It’s perfect for super sleek hair, or beach waves. I love creating a flat wave with it, especially for all of my razor bob haircuts.
What’s the most underrated drugstore product?
Axe Pomade, specifically the Classic Clean Cut Look Pomade. It’s so workable and goes on like a gel but is completely moldable. I used to flat iron it into my hair and it blocks out humidity and gives the perfect hold and texture.
If you only had time to use one product on a client, what would it be?
If I could only use one product it would have to be Bumble and bumble Thickening Spray. It’s such a versatile spray. I normally use if for a perfect blowout, but it can be used to create a wet look. It’s great for a slick ponytail or updo too. It’s buildable so you can use less for a softer look, or layer a bunch for something more editorial.
