NEED TO KNOW: Hair Do’s and Dont’s with Kent Nelson

Hask Hair x Mane Addicts

When it comes to hair care, there are a few cardinal rules one must always follow, but you’d be surprised to find out how many of us actually do! Kent Nelson, Hair Department Head for ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder, fills us in on the rules we need to follow…

DO invest in a good cut.

When you’re haircut is right, you’d be surprised how little you actually need to do to maintain it. Take the time to research people in your area who you can trust with your hair and don’t be afraid to spend a little extra. A good cut means less trims in the interim, which will save you in the long run. Compliment your chic new cut with HASK Macadamia Oil Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner.

HASK Shampoo and Conditioner

DON’T use a brush on wet hair.

Instead, use a wide-tooth comb or detaingling wet brush and always start at the ends. Hair is fragile and elastic when wet and regular brushes provide too much tension, causes the strands to stretch and lead to breakage. Instead, treat wet strands delicately and prep damp strands with HASK Bamboo Oil prior to combing for tangle free tresses.

DO wash your hair with the correct products.

Dry hair requires a hydrating shampoo, like HASK Monoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner, while oily hair benefits from a purifying shampoo, like HASK Charcoal Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner.

DON’T expose your hair to the sun…

…especially during the hottest times of the day as this can cause color fading and an exposed cuticle layer of the hair. Instead, wear a hat and shield your hair from harsh UV rays with HASK Kalahari Color Protection Shine Oil.

DO use a clarifying shampoo periodically to remove build-up of product.

This once a week treatment means hair stays bouncy and color stays fresh! Try HASK Charcoal Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner.

DON’T tie your hair back too tightly

…and NEVER when it is wet and NEVER with a rubber band! Instead, use soft (cotton, fabric) ties for your hair or a clip to avoid unnecessary pulling and breakage.

DO brush your hair every morning.

This helps distribute the hairs natural oils evenly and stimulates the scalp’s blood supply, meaning healthier, thick strands, that grow faster!

DON’T over-style.

No matter how much heath protectant you layer on, excess blowdrying and heat styling will take their toll on your strands. Use a once a week treatment like HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Packette to combat heat and styling damage.

DO allow your hair to dry natural as often as possible.

Afraid that air drying results in dull strands? HASK Shine Oils are great to use before air-drying to add shine or try HASK Weightless Waves for gorgeous soft curls. If you’ve got curly or natural strands, try t-shirt drying.
