Whether your edges play center stage in your hairstyle or take a backseat, keeping them soft and laid in warmer temperatures can be tricky. That’s why we went to the pros for their go-to edge tamers. In the gallery ahead, discover seven heat-proof edge taming products for baby hairs that behave.
Creme of Nature Edge Argan Oil Perfect Edges: $5
My personal favorite is Perfect Edges by Creme of Nature because it keeps edges soft and not crunchy stiff like gel. However, in the summer, heat can emulsify the softer edge control products, so typically I prefer to use a combo of gel and a softer, more pomade-like edge control if I know the heat will weaken the hold of the product. For extreme temperatures, I use a cocktail of Perfect edges and Got2Be Glued Gel.
The cocktail allows the hair to maintain some level of softness while the gel provides hold and prevents the hair from curling back up, or falling out of place due to emulsification. On tougher textures, I will use just the gel.
Braid Barbie Drip Edge Control: $15
I’ve tried a lot of edge control products but none has performed better than Braid Barbie Drip Edge Control (great for 2a -4b hair) and Styling Gel (best for 4c hair). Braid Barbie is an entrepreneur out of North Carolina and a a master of braids, so she has formulated her products to best serve her clients; especially in the south’s heat and humidity.
Braid Barbie also sells a double sided edge tamer that has a small boar bristle brush head on one side and a tiny comb on the other for flawless application and styling. A pro tip is to set the edges by wrapping a silk scarf along the hairline to apply pressure while the product dries for extra insurance.
Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother: $8
BabyTress Edge Styler: $15
I just got the BabyTress Edge Styler and I love it! It has a unique triangular shape that makes it easy to get in the creases of the face and hairline. It is dual sided which makes it amazing for all different hair textures and for laying the hair flat. I love using with Bumble and bumble Sumotech or Oribe Rock Hard Gel.
