Jen Atkin’s 4 Biggest Hair Trends For 2018

Hey Mane Addicts, welcome to 2018! If you’re anything like me, you’ve been more than ready to wash away the volatility and scandal that was 2017 to make way for a fresh new start. But in between the seemingly never-ending political drama and violence came a small beacon of hope–all of the huge advances we made with female empowerment. Women taking ownership of their rights, their bodies and calling BS on how they are treated by their colleagues, bosses and peers. We still have a long way to go, but I’m excited to see what else we can achieve in 2018. That being said, if you’re feeling like you need a makeover, or just want to start 2018 out fresh AF, I’ve put together four of my favorite trends for the new year.

1. Fringe

I’m loving bangs with a shaggy cut; they’re so versatile and frame the face so well! I’ve also been obsessed with fringes on wavy/curly hair lately too and think they make a bold statement. I also love the look of soft, shaggy layers with a textured fringe. It’s a great way to transition out of a shorter cut or hide grown-out roots if you have them. Tell your stylist you want a lot of movement and texture, especially towards the ends and in the fringe. It also helps to show your stylist screenshots of looks that you like, as long as they’re of someone with similar texture/length to yours.

2. Curly and textured hair

Gone are the days of working against your hair–this year is all about enhancing and defining your natural curls! I think the diffuser is back, I’m so obsessed. The Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer with the diffuser attachment is the best tool for getting girls in and out of the bathroom faster. You can get a really cool natural bend using a little bit of OUAI Wave Spray, and Christophe Robin Volumizing Mist.

3. Accessories

I think the biggest trend is going to be hair accessories! I’ve been putting them on all my girls and have now designed three different collections with Chloe and Isabel. It’s such a simple way to upgrade your look or for taking your hair from day-to-night. They’re perfect for the glam girl that likes to dress things up or for the low maintenance gal that wants something fast to dress up her look. and short hair isn’t going ANYWHERE!

4. Pastel colored hair

I don’t think pastel or fantasy colors are going anywhere! It’s a trend I’m seeing more and more people embrace and I think it’s fun to switch things up and rock a statement color.

Keep the creative juices flowing this year and try out something new. This is YOUR year and I can’t to see what you create!

xx Jen
