K18 is everywhere. After launching their Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask in December 2020, the brand quickly rose in popularity. Hairstylists, beauty editors, and just about everyone on TikTok could not stop talking about this bond-building product that promised softer, stronger, shinier strands. With this much hype for a new product, I was skeptical yet intrigued. So, I did what any beauty editor would do—I reached out to the K18 PR team to see if they would send me a sample to try. Read on for my entire K18 review and everything you need to know about their hair mask!
Currently, the brand only has one consumer-facing product, which is the repair mask. More often than not, this is what people are raving about when they say they love K18. What makes it so notable? Science, baby. Utilizing patented peptide technology, the mask works hard to reconnect broken keratin chains leaving you with your best hair yet. After four to six washes, you’ll notice softer, smoother, bouncier, and stronger strands. K18’s hair mask is also vegan, color-safe, cruelty-free, so it has a lot going for it.
Admittedly, it took me longer than it should’ve to test out K18. Because it was so highly talked about, I felt somewhat skeptical. Surely this product wasn’t as magical as the internet was claiming it to be. Thank goodness I put that skepticism aside and tried it because it really is that good.
Before I get into my thorough K18 review, I do want to note that I received a non-toxic smoothing treatment not that long ago. Because of that, my hair has been as healthy as ever and I went into this experience with pretty solid strands. Still, they can always use any extra help they can get.
One of the reasons I wasn’t sure about trying out this product is because it’s a mask. I’m probably going to get in trouble for saying this, but I am not a big fan of hair masks. They require more energy than I’m willing to put into my strands. And often, they don’t even really work as well as they claim they do. But this mask was different than the rest, given all I had to do was shampoo my hair, towel dry it, evenly disperse the product, let it sit for four minutes, then style as usual. Normally, most masks require you to shampoo, let the mask sit for 15 minutes, then rinse it out, and finish with conditioner. That is too many steps for someone who barely wants to shampoo or condition their locks. It’s me, I’m someone. But this leave-in only required a few pumps and four minutes.
The instructions noted to use the leave-in product consecutively for four to six washes to see long-lasting results. Even after one wash, I noticed a difference. My hair felt so smooth and soft, and this is after receiving a smoothing treatment. I’ve since used the K18 hair mask for four consecutive washes and my hair is so soft, that I don’t want to stop touching it.
(Before vs. one wash. vs four washes)
The Bottom Line
I completely understand why everyone is obsessed with K18 after using it myself. The mask is so easy to use and delivers results almost instantly. My hair is ridiculously soft and feels stronger as well. Obviously, I have fairly straight hair so I can’t attest to how it will perform on curly or wavy strands, but it is designed to work for all hair types.
You can even purchase a try-it size of the K18 product if you’re not ready to splurge just yet. But I promise you will.
