If you know anything about hair, then you’ve heard his name before; but Mane Master Luigi Murenu’s current line of work as an artist extends much further than just hair.
The Italian editorial stylist’s inspiring hair artistry has been featured in campaigns for Armani, Gucci, Prada, and Versace to name a few, while his celebrity clients include the likes of Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson and Madonna. Without missing a beat, Luigi adds the title of visionary fashion photographer to his impressive list of accomplishments.
With his partner, Iango Henzi (known together as Luigi and Iango), this dynamic duo is the creative force behind Lara Stone’s drop-dead gorgeous cover story for the September issue of W Magazine Korea.
Decked out in sheer lace and sequin ensembles from Valentino’s Fall 2015 Haute Couture Collection, Lara is the picture of windswept, bedhead turned blonde bombshell in this editorial spread.
With Luigi acting as hairstylist and photographer, Lara’s sexy, stripped-down shoot is the perfect marriage between ethereal hair and its minimalistic, yet passionate portrayal. Luigi’s clear mastery of both crafts allows Lara’s brilliant blonde mane to be the star of the show, and this is where Luigi’s work truly shines.
As an editorial hairstylist, it can be difficult to relinquish creative control of your vision when it comes time to photograph your work. There’s always the risk that the look may not translate on camera, and it’s up to the photographer to express your aesthetic in a way that rings true to your style. But for Luigi, what makes his work so unique is his ability to do both so well.
In an interview with Models.com, Luigi says “The past four years working with Iango it brought out so much in me. It wasn’t only about hair, it wasn’t only about the photography, it was about a vast scenario. I had always loved to get involved in shootings that way, but now that I’m doing my own shoots, it’s like I have found my voice.”
We can’t wait to see what this incredible double-threat will dream up next!
