Marianna Hewitt evokes major
hair life goals with her site, Life with ME. A social media sensation (with an Instagram following of half a million and counting), Marianna was born to be in front of the camera. With a career that started as a TV host, she quickly realized she had a knack for this kind of thing and took off with her own brand. Not to mention she has a mane that every California girl swoons over, soft balayage blonde and a versatile cut that easily transitions between curly and straight. So when we heard she partnered with Kerastase’s Discipline Curl Collection, we had a few questions for the beauty queen…
You are a busy woman, what’s your power hairstyle when you aren’t leaving it natural?
A blowout! I get them 1-2 times a week, I leave it as is for the first day or two then add in some dry shampoo and can make it last me a few days. I always feel more confident with a blowout.
Your day to day hairstyle?
If I haven’t gotten a blowout, I wash my hair and let it do its natural thing. I have a natural wave to my hair so I’ll dry it with a diffuser and use a 1 inch curling wand to define the top layer.
I’m a really big fan of oils and will try pretty much any oil that’s getting a lot of buzz. Since I color my hair often, I also use a lot of hair masks and am currently loving the Kérastase Discipline Masque Curl Idéal.
You have naturally curly hair. Was this something you struggled with growing up? What tips do you have for girls with similar hair texture?
I couldn’t figure out how to make it look “pretty” and not frizzy. It just kind of looked like I didn’t care about my hair. I think a diffuser and using the right products are two keys. I tried to just use anything but starting with whatever you use in the shower really makes a huge difference in how my waves will end up. Drying your hair with t-shirt helps so much as well, so that you don’t disturb the curl patterns and cause them to frizz.
More and more models and celebs are embracing their natural hair textures. What do you think sparked this change?
I think as women value a healthier lifestyle overall it starts to reflect in their hair and beauty choices. Right now there’s a ton of great resources and websites dedicated to natural textures so the information is out there and honestly it just feels good to embrace what’s naturally yours.
You used to be a TV host! How did you transition into creating a lifestyle site?
I thought, why am I creating content for someone else when I could do this for myself? I would find the topics, research them, write the stories and sometimes edit the videos so for me it just seemed like the natural next step to create my own place to share the things that I love.
What does it mean to you to be a ‘she-e-o’?
It is not only being in charge of my own company and life but empowering the women around me. From my best friends, friends in the same space and women I don’t know through social media. I aspire to inspire and I just want every woman I know and every woman around me to feel fulfilled, love their career and be self-sufficient.
If you could trade hair with anyone for a day, who would it be?
I’m currently LOVING Gigi Hadid’s hair, her fluffy hair from the Daily Front Row Awards was so good. Also loving Kim Kardashian’s ombre.
What’s next for Marianna?
I did a clothing line collab with House of CB last year that did really well. Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez a bunch of incredible women wore the designs. So my friend, Conna Walker of House of CB and I are starting a new brand with our first collection out this Fall/Winter.
