Odds are if you’ve been on the internet in the past 8 years you’ve crossed virtual paths with blogging goddess Aimee Song, of Song of Style. Aimee’s personal style blog is the go to reference for millions, so it’s no surprise that when she endorses something it makes a major wave across the fashion and beauty industry.
A few months ago Aimee ditched her signature long beach waves for the seasons hottest trend, the long bob, and undoubtedly stylists saw an influx of “lob” requests! I’m not going to lie… even I referenced it when recently going shorter! So when I finally got the chance to meet Aimee and dish a little on her new hair I was over the moon to hear that she was making yet another change and wanted Mane Addicts to join her in the salon! Aimee gave me a heads up that she was going shorter with Anh Co Tran of Ramirez-Tran Salon in Beverly HIlls, and I knew I HAD to be there!
Aimee and Anh had been talking about going shorter for some time, but he wasn’t trying to convince her to change anything. He told her that a shorter style would look amazing and that he was ready [with scissors] when she was! He explained that it’s important to be ready to make the change on your own, and when you are, be aggressive with the change. It’s more intriguing to just go for it rather than taking baby steps to inevitably get to the same result.
I couldn’t resist asking where a trend setter like Aimee goes for inspiration, I mean, when the world is looking at you, where do you look? Song said she didn’t have a specific photo or style that inspired her cut but Co Tran’s Tumblr really helped give that final nudge to make the big chop. She loves all his cuts and feels 100% comfortable with anything that he does. It’s not unusual to have some nerves when going for a dramatic change, but Aimee was as cool as a cucumber relaxing in Anh’s chair as he took the scissors to her locks and 3+ inches fell to the ground.
Anh explained that when it comes to current hair trends, “it doesn’t matter if it’s long, medium, or short. It’s the texture that matters.” For Aimee he opted to keep a very minimal a-line with the length slightly longer in the front to keep the illusion of more length. This helps ease the transition while making the move from long to short. He likes to put a soft curl in the hair and then pull the front pieces out and down to create a chic long line.
When Anh finished with Aimee’s new shorter ‘do it was time to pass off to Cherin Choi for color. Aimee wanted a brighter hue for summer, so Cherin lightened the ends with the perfect cool tone of blonde to compliment Aimee’s skin tone.
At the end of the full salon day, Aimee looks stunning! Not that it’s a difficult feat when your subject is a gorgeous as Song, but we must give credit to the masters behind the mane, Anh Co Tran and Cherin Choi!
