If there’s one hair tool brand we can’t get enough of, it’s Dyson. Yes, we love their vacuums but we’re even more impressed by how they can use “heatless” airflow to transform our locks. Dyson’s Airwrap complete has been a staple in our hair kit since it first launched its interchangeable attachments tool in 2018. And now there’s more to love as the brand just launched a 2.0 version of the multi-styler, helping us combat frizz with science. But how is the 2022 Dyson Airwrap different than the original? We reached out to Dyson and did our own inspection to test the upgrade.

What’s Different About the 2022 Dyson Airwrap?
The Coanda Effect
The new Airwrap’s most buzzworthy feature is that it’s been redesigned for a “Coanda” effect. Think of this as when your hair seamlessly wraps around a round brush while being blow dried by a stylist. This creates a smoother finish and makes styling easier. It was named for the way a plane stays attached to a convex surface.
“We’ve re-engineered nearly all of our Dyson Airwrap attachments to harness enhanced Coanda airflow for more control when styling,” explains a Dyson brand rep. “We’ve also added the Coanda smoothing dryer to the range, which is a new multi-functional attachment that replaces our pre-styling dryer.”
More Tool Control
To make curls more believable, “the Airwrap barrels now include a rotating cool tip to change the direction of the airflow. This means you can create both clockwise and anticlockwise curls using a single attachment. The smoothing brushes have been re-engineered to style with more control, using enhanced Coanda airflow to attract and align hair for a straight style,” the rep continues.
Easier to Use
Dyson is known for taking its time to research, and the reboot was no different. “We are constantly striving to deliver a better experience across all our Dyson technology and the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler is no exception. Since its launch in 2018, Dyson engineers across the world have worked in unison, to make a tool that is faster, more versatile, and easier to use. Sophisticated simulation allows engineers to refine each attachment in minute detail,” they continue.
Why Did Dyson Release a New Airwrap?
While the launch wasn’t necessarily based on customer feedback, Dyson’s rep explains that the team wanted to do more after perfecting the Coanda.
“Often dissatisfied and striving to enhance technology with consumers in mind, Dyson engineers challenged their own design to miniaturize and multiply the Coanda effect, pioneering a fully customizable styling tool to deliver a range of styles for different hair types, without extreme heat. The goal in mind was to create a better performing, more efficient, and faster styling tool for consumers,” they continue.
All these changes mean less heat and less damage. “The Dyson Airwrap 2022 uses the combination of air and heat to create voluminous curls and waves with no extreme heat damage. To prevent extreme heat damage, the product has a glass bead thermistor preventing the machine from exceeding temperatures which could damage your hair.”
Our Dyson 2022 Airwrap Experience
Both sets are gorgeous, and the new features a choice of four colors. We opted for the sleek blue and cooper.
The new Airwrap features more attachments suitable for all hair types and allows you to really switch it up. This isn’t the basic curly vs. straight situation. The pre-dryer attachment is where this tool really shines as the Coanda effect actually works to make hair smoother and dry faster, which is a true time-saver. Fewer flyaways got us feeling brand new.
Though expensive (it retails at $599, the same price as the original) when you think of all the pro blowouts saved and factor in your hair condition over the long term, it becomes justifiable.
