Trend Report: 10 Easy NYFW Styles We’re Saving

Since Friday, New York City has been bustling more than usual with busy models, impeccable streetwear fashion influencers, and killer late-night after parties. NYFW is finally here to mark the start of fall and showcase Spring 2023 collections.

We can best describe this season’s NYFW runway hair trends as undone and perfectly imperfect. While the week is just getting started, we can already gauge the trends that will inspire the masses. Last season’s slicked-back looks have been traded for tousled, unstyled, come-as-you-are locks.

Aside from a couple of hair accessories and braided crowns thrown into the mix, styles have been mostly effortless (no complaints here) and breezy. It may be time to pause on your hot tool usage and embrace your hair’s natural curl pattern because these are the hair trends from NYFW to try after making their debut on the runways.

Acrylic Bubble Beads

Has your Instagram been flooded with bubble nail art lately? These abstract nail looks have been trending within the last year, featuring 3D iridescent gel designs and organic shapes. To see a version of this translated to hair on the runways this year doesn’t surprise us. We need to get our hands on some bubble beads, stat!

Angelic Accessories

Last year we saw a lot of bow trends, including interesting hair ties and lacing. We’re excited to see more free-flowing hair accessories. In a way, it reminds us of how popular hair feathers once were and how they draped and blended in with strands of hair.

If the dangling of these hair accessories feels too overdone for your next event, try it with a braided look or add it to a ponytail to punch the look up a bit.

Colorful Extensions

Nothing we haven’t seen before but we can likely all agree that colorful hair extensions have been tucked away in the accessory vault for a while now. We’re happy to see them back, especially during a season that isn’t summer. We feel with the right colors, these extensions can accentuate any look without looking too out of place. Yet it remains very editorial and ahead of the trend curve. Hop on this trend now as it feels the most timely of the bunch.

Pinned-Back Crowns

Let this be your new go-to look for second or third-day hair. If you’re someone who struggles with oily roots yet your ends stay fresh in between washes (fine hair individuals, this is for you) this is a great trendy style to try out to extend your hair’s life just a bit longer.

Make it as slick as you want or as loosely pinned back. We think it looks best when you leave a few stray pieces or a tiny bump here and there. Try adding in a small braid or two if you’d like. Again, it’s all about the imperfectness of it.

Windblown Waves

You’ve heard of beach waves and you’ve probably spent your entire summer flaunting them yourself. Not much can beat the hair that salty air can give you but for some reason, we’re loving this windswept look.

It almost feels like this model went to bed with her hair wet and woke up with curls in all different (but the right places). She’s making top down, hair blowing out the window look cool and we’re here for it. Very Carrie Bradshaw if you ask us.

Slicked Pixie

Fine, we just had to throw one slicked look in here. Arguably the pixie haircut fell off for a few years but just as we saw the mullet come back and evolve into ‘70s wolf cuts, pixies are here again too.

We love this deep side part and how the bangs cover much of the forehead, coming close to the model’s eyebrows. This is a haircut you wouldn’t expect to frame the face but somehow does perfectly. Get your favorite gel at the ready, even if you’re not up for this big chop you can definitely fake it with some pins and styling.

Rope Braids

Move over Hailey Bieber baby braids, rope braids are back from the ‘90s and they’re here in multiples. We spent all summer agonizing in front of the mirror as we carefully braided our curtain bangs and side-swept pieces like Miss Hailey. But this season is going to be full of soft and shiny strands spun into easy twists. The good news is rope braids are easy as it gets, just make sure you’re starting with a silky and clean hair base.

Lazy Bun & Tail

Kim Kardashian was spotted with this version of a bun at the Fendi show and we’ve seen it absolutely take over TikTok in a matter of hours. Honestly, this hair look can look pretty messy and unkempt but Kim just makes it work. Perhaps because she’s dressed in head-to-toe Fendi rhinestones.

We’re still clutching onto our claw clips but could this be what replaces our beloved way to updo? We’re down to try this no-styling-required look.

Mullet Bangs

We didn’t know quite what to call these. Bluntly chopped curtain bangs didn’t seem right—this look is called mullet bangs, we’ve decided. As far as we can tell there’s a party in the back with an angular bang that we haven’t seen before.

Plus, this definitely grows out better than a mullet—at any point, you can decide to round out those bangs to become wispier and less angular. Seems like the ideal edgy haircut because there’s a way out if you don’t exactly love it.

Bleached Copper Colors

Kendall Jenner did it first, we know. This color dominated nearly every presentation. The best way to achieve this is to show your stylist a photo. We fear taking a DIY approach might result in too much of a bleached look. It’s the perfect color for fall to dress with neutrals or bold colors. It also enhances many different skin tones. Is this the universal hair color that suits everyone?
