By now, you’ve probably seen her in one of your favorite tv shows or perhaps in your favorite movie. You’ve definitely seen her on our site! Teyonah Parris, fresh face of Hollywood, is on the rise, not just for her incredible acting talent but also for her glamorous mane.
Stalk through Parris’ Instagram and behold a hair god. The actress, best known for her role as Dawn in the Golden Globe-winning series Mad Men and for her role as Coco in the critically acclaimed film Dear White People, blesses her followers with gorgeous #naturalhair manespirations on the daily.
Funny enough, Parris has worn wigs for her most famous roles. Who knew such a fabulous afro was underneath the whole time? Mane like that deserve to be flaunted!
All of the hair envy…all of it! Parris is becoming quite the beauty icon. With every Instagram post, she proves the awesomeness and endless versatility of the afro. Whether it’s her chic headwraps, classy updos (which, by the way, were apparently crafted by angels), or full out goddess ‘fros, Parris will have you questioning: “Why haven’t I tried this?”
The southern belle grew up in South Carolina where she attended a performing arts high school (South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities to be specific– the same high school Orange is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks attended!) Parris later moved to New York City to continue her studies at the very prestigious Juilliard School. Since then, the actress has gone on to work with some of the greats including Mos Def, Jeffrey Wright, Reese Witherspoon, Debbie Allen, Spike Lee, and others.
You can catch Parris in her latest role, starring as the sophisticated “Missy Vaughn” in Starz’s “Survivor’s Remorse” premiering August 22nd. The actress is also set to star in Spike Lee’s upcoming film Chiraq. We can’t wait to see what else is next for this rising star. We’re also super excited to have a new celeb reign for the naturalistas!
