Paris Couture week is one of fashion’s most anticipated events because no one holds back. Think of Couture Week as a vogue ball, or like everyone is competing for title of Best Camp a la the Met Gala – designers come to slay and want to standout. That being said, this is when some of the best trends of the year emerge. If one thing was clearly happening on the runway, it was the modified time capsule hair and beauty looks coming straight from the 80s. Crimps, huge curls, soft, cloud waves, accessories and playful ponytails defined the decade — and the shows. Here are some of our favorite looks that we can’t wait to copy.
Gravity Defying Side Pony
Push your wrapped top pony to the side for a truly 80’s vibe – think Ariana but a blast from the past.
Sporty and Chic
This look is giving us Olivia Newton John – Let’s Get Physical vibes, but make it couture.
In the 80’s it was all about cute mall-ready accessories, like these symmetrical clips seen on the Jean Paul Gaultier runway.
The 80s was defined by bigger is better hair, and the trend still carries – proven by these thick curls pictured on the Zuhair Murad runway.
Soft waves, big hat – sometimes being fashionable AF is that simple, especially when referencing Bianca Jagger like on the RDVK runway. After all this 80s inspo, we’re wondering if cloud waves are going to be the new glass hair…
What we have here is shoulder-padded perfection (not easy to do) offset by a sleek scarf – for when you want to do your hair without actually showing it, as seen at RVDK.
Did we mention curls? If Parisian designers are any indication, curls rule (at least for another year) like at Zuhair Murad. Keep yours hydrated using Vor A Walk in the Sun Luxury Hair Oil: $35.
We love a good crimp! If you don’t want to sleep overnight with 3,000 tiny braids, hook yourself up with the GHD Contour Professional Performance Crimper: $169 which does the trick in one press.
The New Prom
Don’t be shy – knots, crimps, an up-dos – think of this all-in-one look as the artsy cousin of lived-in braids — but possibly on the way to prom, as done by Guo Pei.
A Royal Mane
Consider this gravity defying up-style your cliffnotes for getting “regal” right. For accessible crown jewels head to Lelet.
Deconstructed knots add shape, making any look instantly 80s avant-garde.
Having crimped bangs was an 80s right of passage — and part of the reason the decade was defined by hairspray. To keep yours in place without any hard edge, try R+Co Outerspace Flexible Hairspray: $32.
