Nestled in the heart of Culver City is a salon that subscribes to California’s laid back mantra, “no attitude, no fuss.” The Compound Salon, co-founded by Dina Delpalma-Fonte and Jason Fonte almost two years ago, decided to call the Culver City Arts district home for it’s industrial feel and eclecticism. “We wanted to open our own salon because we had been in the industry for quite awhile and this seemed like a natural progression from only being behind the chair. It seemed like it was time for us to take our knowledge and passion for the industry and apply it to our own space,” Dina tells us. And the Cali undertones don’t stop–the interior plays homage to California casual with a clean, minimal interior with pops of color; a laid back feel that’s perfect for clients to relax.

Besides having an easy breezy, upbeat attitude, according to Dina, what really sets The Compound Salon apart is their color. “Everyone here has their own strengths in different color techniques. Its something we all do a lot of every day.” And the Bumble and bumble-centric salon will cater to your every need, offering a range of services ranging from cutting and styling to extensions and keratin treatments.
Below, find out Dina’s advice for opening your own salon, along with her biggest challenge as a salon owner.
