5 Reasons to Switch to a Silk Pillowcase, If You Haven’t Already

In all honesty, I never gave much thought to the material or quality of my pillowcase. As long as it was clean, I was happy. However, in the past year or so, I’ve feel like I’ve been putting more effort into preserving my styled hair so that I can a. wash it less and b. use heat tools less often. Products are a great way to refresh a style but I was looking for a way not to mess it up in the first place. Enter, the silk pillowcase. Here are 5 reasons I made the switch, and why you should too.

The first time I put my silk pillowcase to the test (and the reason I fell in love with it) was the night after I had an expensive professional blowout done for a friends wedding. I wanted to wear the look for the rest of the week if I could. I switched out my cotton pillowcase and went to sleep as I normally would (no topknot this time though). Waking up was a little like Christmas morning, I ran to mirror and oh my god – it was amazing. Somehow I had no tangles and no mysteriously flat sections, it was like I never went to sleep. No bedhead!? I was hooked.

Along with the no bedhead situation ( !!! still not over it) I noticed that throughout the week I slept on silk, I had A LOT less frizz. Why? Because Silk, unlike cotton, wasn’t stealing any of the moisture from my hair. Also, my hair glides easily against pillow, meaning no friction or snagging (which was resulting in split ends, hair breakage and frizz.)

Once I was hooked on the hair benefits of a silk pillowcase, I looked into other ways it could be helping me from a beauty perspective. What stands out the most to me is that it helps with anti-aging! Like I said before, the pillow doesn’t absorb moisture, so your skin gets to keeps its moisture too. (Also important, the expensive creams you use stay off your pillow and on your face). Another anti-aging benefit is no more face-creases. These are caused by friction which silk doesn’t cause. Score!

A bonus for summer is that silk doesn’t conduct heat or static electricity, meaning it stays at about body temperature. No more pillow flipping!

Last but not least, I feel like supermodel in Paris when I sleep with a silk pillowcase. It’s such a luxurious fiber and it adds an expensive touch to my bedroom.

Want to make the switch? I love this one from SLIP. They use the highest grade mulberry silk and non-toxic dyes, plus the packaging is super cute. How perfect is this nude color?
