Main Differences Between Silk and Satin Pillowcases

“Generally speaking, the main difference is that silk is a natural fiber; satin is only a weave,” Chloe explains to Mane Addicts. “Silk will most likely have a more shimmery appearance and satin will have a glossier appearance. When choosing a pillowcase, the hair and skin benefits of silk heavily outweigh those of a satin pillowcase. Silk is soft, luxurious, hypoallergenic, and lightweight, making it the perfect thing to sleep on. Satin can cause skin irritation due to its synthetic materials. It’s also not nearly as beneficial for your skin and hair.”

Why Silk Is a Comfier Bet Than Satin

“Silk is naturally soft and luxurious, making it easy to catch up on beauty sleep,” Chloe says. “Additionally, it can absorb 10-30 percent of its weight in moisture making it incredibly lightweight. This helps keep you cool at night.”

Why People Occasionally Opt for Satin Over Silk

“Silk is absolutely more luxe as it is superior to satin when it comes to softness and beauty benefits,” Chloe says. “If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, satin may be an option. But be aware that silk has been proven to help reduce frizz, hair breakage, and helps to keep your skin looking its best.”

Do Satin and Silk Ever Feel Exactly the Same?

“Manmade textiles will never be able to replicate the softness of pure silk,” Chloe says of satin versus silk. “Both may feel slippery and ‘silky,’ but that desired softness can only be found with pure silk.”

Biggest Misconception of Silk vs Satin Pillowcases

“There’s a common misconception that silk is unaffordable, and MYK Silk is working to debunk that,” Chloe says. “If you’re debating on whether to buy a silk or satin pillowcase and it’s come down to the price, our cotton underside option helps keep our pillowcase affordable without compromising the silk.”
