With the holidays approaching, a subtle change can be the push you need to get in the spirit. Inspired by Sofia Richie’s latest revamp, we hit up her by Nine Zero One Salon stylists to find out how they achieved her latest down to earth blonde. “She was ready for a change and wanted something more natural,” says Nine Zero One Senior Stylist Tauni Dawson, who helped Richie make the transition for fall.
The inspiration from the look came from photos of Sophia as a child – Tauni wanted to get her back to her amazing natural base color, but with more exaggerated depth. “ I added lowlights to bring dimension back into her ends, melted her old highlights, and toned her summer blonde more neutral,” says Tauni, who also cut about an inch off to “give her a strong, but shattered look on the ends!”
To achieve Sofia’s lowlights, Tauni used LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 10NC + 8NG + 6NW with 5 Volume LumiShine Developer. For the root shadow, she mixed LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 6NW + 7NWB + 6NG with 5 Volume LumiShine Developer and to tone the ends down she used Blonde Life Violet Shampoo.
To keep Sophia’s hair in tip-top shape year-round – especially after a color service – Mane Addicts stylist Kathleen Riley begins by detangling. “To protect the health and integrity of her hair, I always start off with Unite 7 Seconds Detangler and the Knot Dr. for Conair brush,” Kathleen says, making sure the hair is handled extra gently when brushed since that’s when it’s most susceptible to breakage.
“Before blow drying, I apply Color Wow Dream Coat all over and use a Dyson Supersonic Blowdryer on medium heat and medium airflow,” continues Kathleen. And no matter what, she always uses a heat protectant like Ouai Memory Mist (which is her fave) if there’s any kind of heat styling happening. When it’s time to bring out the texture changers, Kathleen reaches for ghd for both curling and flat irons, “because the tools are temperature controlled, which prevents heat damage,” she explains. “Hair health is priority and I never use any products or tools that will compromise it!” adds Kathleen.
