When I say I’m picky about my hair products, it’s an understatement. Not only do I get to test all of the latest and greatest product launches as the Editorial Director of Mane Addicts, my fiancé is also a hair colorist, which turns most dinner time talks into live product reviews.
Maintaining healthy-looking hair is always the target concern for me with products, while simultaneously preserving my bright red hair color which sadly isn’t real. I have thick, straight hair that’s on the super dry side, so giving my strands much needed moisture without weighing it down is key.
My interest was piqued after reviewing Better Natured’s carefully curated ingredient glossary on their site, which details their ingredients alphabetically in addition to categorizing them into two main buckets, naturally-derived and purely science. Better Natured uses the Global ISO Standard 16128 which defines naturally-derived as a plant or mineral derived material and water which is found in nature and has undergone limited processing. I specifically like that they avoid ingredients harmful to the environment like silicones, sulfates and formaldehyde-releasing agents, which are all important pillars for me when it comes to trying and purchasing products.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the line and quickly identified the stands outs. Ahead, I’m sharing my top three picks from the Better Natured line perfect for color-treated hair.
1. Better Natured Color Care Shampoo: $20
The first thing I noticed is how luxe this shampoo felt on the scalp. It’s foamy and has a nice lather, while delivering a silky clean rinse experience. According to the website, “Color Care Shampoo is responsibly formulated according to the ISO Global Standard 16128, with 86% naturally-derived ingredients, including our signature Triple Plant Milk blend of Coconut, Tahitian Palm and White Orchid,” the latter which explains the dreamy scent of this product. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and can attest that my hair color has remained vibrant and luminous.

2. Better Natured Color Care Conditioner: $20
I’m a self-confessed conditioner junkie. I go thru it way faster than conditioner, and even find myself reaching for masks more regularly than typically conditioner for added hydration on my dry ends. This color-conserving conditioner has left my hair smooth and silky, and appears to be be visibly breaking off less than before I started using it. It has the same fragrance profile as the shampoo, and I like to leave it on for about 3-4 minutes to really sink in.

3. Color Care Deep Conditioning Balm: $22
As I mentioned above, I’m more attracted to thicker balms and masks for my hydration step and this Deep Conditioning Balm does not disappoint. The price is on point and it really does what it says it does – ” locks down brilliance, depth and tone in color-treated hair for up to 9 weeks when used together as a system with the Color Care Shampoo,” while delivering serious TLC that helps return strands to their soft, shiny, healthy-looking glory.” I’ve definitely noticed that my hair looks more brilliant while maintaining my color in between appointments.
