The Oscars is the spot to debut a transformative look, whether it’s a structured updo, the perfect pony or a totally new hue. These ladies accepted the Academy’s challenge and officially slayed their way down the red carpet. No matter who walks away with an Oscar, here are our picks for the night’s most award winning hair styles.
Conjuring sirens of the 1920s, stylist Vernon Francois achieved Amandla’s intricate knotted braids using his own Vernon Francois Styling Cream and Pure Fro, Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray, Crème of Nature Style Shine Foaming Mousse and Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray.
Stylist Jennifer Yepez used The One line by Frederic Fekkai to make Laura Harrier look like a true princess, with this face-framing, tactile, refreshingly romantic updo.
Jenna Choy created a super sleek bob on Emila Clark that shines and is structured, even though it’s left down.
Stylist Mara Rosak created this sculptural up-do on our forever red carpet fave, Emma Stone, using Leonor Greyl.
Stylist Derek Yuen locked down Constance’s fierce pony using products by Goldwell and stylers by Varis. Starting on damp hair, he brushed Goldwell Kerasilk Control through the roots for shine, then added in Elixir to mid-ends, loosely securing hair into a pony before adding heat. He used Goldwell Creative Texture to tame flyaways and then secured the pony with an extra tight elastic, curled the ends of the ponytail, and then spritzed with Kerasilk Style Smoothing Sleek Spray, for an added protectant.
A sleek bun with a 180-degree center part offsets a ruffled, show-stealing red dress on Jennifer Hudson—file this as tip to follow always, the next time you opt for a voluminous dress but aren’t sure what how to wear your hair.
What better place to debut a hair transformation than the Academy Awards? Charlize has swapped her trademark blonde for a deep chocolate, glass hair lob—proving the look has transitioned from trend to timeless. To get the immaculate style, Charlize tapped celeb colorist legend Tracey Cunningham for the hue and celeb stylist Adir Abergel for the chop. Adir used products by ghd and Virtue Labs for a style shiny enough to make a statement on the carpet.
Red carpet queen Lady Gaga slays yet again with this perfectly coiled twist, fit for the ultimate awards night. Frederic Aspiras created the standout updo swirl using products by Joico.
