On a big day like your wedding, there’s absolutely no margin for big mess-ups (or little ones for that matter, all bridezillas would agree). Along with your dress and makeup, your hairstyle should be three things: magical, memorable, and immaculate. To help your mane attain the three M’s, we tapped Lacy Redway, celebrity hairstylist and the woman behind Olivia Palermo’s wedding day ponytail, for a pre-I Do hair prepping guide. Check it out below.
What are the best products and/or tips to maintaining healthy hair in the weeks leading up to your wedding day?
Treat your hair to a deep conditioner two or three weeks before the big day. For normal hair types, try Kerastase Masque Nutri-thermique.
For curls and naturals—Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque.
If you plan on doing any chemical services to your hair, I also recommend to have those done at least two or three weeks away. This allows room for correction in case you were not 100% happy when the service was done.
Is there anything brides-to-be should avoid doing to their hair before the big day?
Avoid doing anything drastic that you normally wouldn’t do, like a drastic hair cut that you haven’t had in the past. I always suggest to my brides considering hairstyles that can stand the test of time. You don’t want to look back at your photos 10-20 years down the line and regret them because you chose a hairstyle that was trendy in that moment.
What specific hairstyle and/or products are ideal for the mane of a bride whose wedding falls on a hot day? on a rainy day?
Believe it or not, a ponytail or a chic bun are great hairstyles for brides. It’s an easy hairstyle to maintain in any weather condition. It can also help add a modern element to your overall look and will stand the test of time.
I gave one of the chicest ladies I know, Olivia Palermo, a ponytail on her big day. We used Bed Head Superstar Queen for a Day Thickening Spray to add texture and volume to her ponytail.
Even if you already know your hairstylist well, I highly recommend scheduling a trial before your wedding date to try out hairstyles. It’s not because you don’t trust your stylist— this appointment is to try out hairstyles to see what best suits you and ensures you and your stylist are on the same page when it comes to the big date. You will have so many emotions running through your body the day of, the last thing you want to be figuring out is hairstyles.
