I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already partial to anything personalized. From monogrammed cosmetic cases and towels to engraved bracelets and personalized beauty products, I’ve always been a sucker for things either boasting my initials or made just for me. So the idea of getting a custom, made-to-order hair oil that caters to my exact hair needs obviously got my attention, especially since I’m picky when it comes to ingredients, efficacy and texture. Enter: Prose, fresh and personalized hair care that’s “bottled just for you,” according to their website. Their products are simple and refined–they offer a pre-shampoo mask, shampoo, conditioner and of course a hair oil, the latter which interested me the most because I am an oil feign but also haven’t quite found the perfect product that’s clean, provides enough hydration and doesn’t weigh down my strands.

In order for Prose to create the perfect concoction, first you must fill out a quiz detailing your hair texture and length along with other attributes so they can get a gauge on what your hair needs are. A few days later I received this beauty in the mail and couldn’t wait to take it for a test spin. The key natural active ingredients in my hair oil are plum oil, tomato oil and oat oil, to name a few.
Plum seed oil is great for moisture and damage repair while oat kernel oil aids in color protection which I need tons of. Plus, a little tomato oil for shine, black currant oil to help mend those split ends and babassu oil for overall hair health. The insert card suggests using the product two ways: as a reparative treatment on dry hair applied 5-20 minutes prior to showering and as a styling oil on wet or dry hair to add moisture and hydration. I tried this oil out both ways and I definitely prefer using it as a restorative treatment (ie: rinse out) although I do like to apply it on damp ends too for moisture. Note, a little goes a long way, so make sure to put just a little bit when using as a styling hair oil.

At Prose, all of their formulas are paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, GMO-free and cruelty-free. Additionally, you can choose to omit additional ingredients like silicones, which I opted to do. I am loving the results of this as a restorative treatment and can’t wait to order my own custom shampoo and conditioner too! Get your custom Prose hair products here.
