Drugstores beauty aisles, with their insanely bright lights and endless rotation of new products, are impossible to resist, even for hair and beauty bloggers, who have access to some of the highest quality products out there. So what do we pick-up when we pop into CVS for magazines & toothpaste? Here’s my latest haul:
SONIA KASHUK BRUSH
This $15 Sonia Kashuk hair brush is so good that it’s constantly being compared to the gold-standard in the bristle brush category—Mason Pearson. That’s a pretty large feat given the fact the SK brush costs one eighth of the price. The brush has a combo of boar and nylon bristles and a sleek black plastic handle. It’s great for a scalp massage and glides smoothly through my hair.
BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO
When I purchased my first ever can of dry-shampoo, the only one available in my local drugstore was this one from Batiste (in Original Fresh Scent). The dry-shampoo category has since exploded, but whenever I’m in a drugstore, I still pick up a bottle of Batiste. For $7 I get a little nostalgia and a no-frills can of dry shampoo that works the way it should.
HONEST CO DETANGLING CONDITIONER
I have super sensitive skin so I often venture into the baby aisle on the hunt for gentle, no fuss products. That’s how I came across this gem from Jessica Alba’s Honest Co line. I use this as a spray-in, leave-in conditioner and it’s become an absolute must-have for me, especially on vacation, because it’s travel-sized, smells like a creamsicle, and costs 5 bucks. Did I mention Jessica Alba?
SALON CARE PROFESSIONAL MULTICOLORED METAL CLIPS
I’ve been hoarding metal clips ever since I saw this ‘clip trick’ video from OUAI.com. I like these ones in particular because they’re longer so you don’t need to use as many. Oh, and they’re $3 for 6 clips.
SCUNCI SILKY SMOOTH MEDIUM HOLD HAIR TIES
Scunci hair ties are amazing. Normally, I’m loyal to their regular round ones but I made the switch to these when I saw them because I think they look a little more polished and because they’re smooth, they snag less. Strong hair ties are a must-have for me because I have long hair and I absolutely need it to be tied up when I’m at the gym.
HASK ARGAN OIL REPAIRING SHAMPOO & MONOI OIL NOURISHING CONDITIONER
I tend to run out of conditioner faster than shampoo so I like to keep a cheaper option on hand when I’m in a pinch. I’ve tried a lot of different drugstore brands and I keep coming back to this shampoo and conditioner by Hask. It doesn’t weigh my hair down and is super hydrating thanks to monoi oil, a french-polynesian oil that contains tiare flower, and coconut oil.
NOT YOUR MOTHERS SEA SALT SPRAY & OGX COCONUT OIL SPRAY
There are a few drugstore sea salt sprays out there that I like but I keep going back to Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Spray this one because it’s not sticky but it still adds the right amount of texture. To keep my ends from drying out, I use the salt spray in tandem with OGX’s Weightless Hydration Oil Coconut Water. The oil spray is lightweight enough that it doesn’t interfere with styling, which is great and they both smell similarly amazing so its works.
