Remember when Mane Addicts’ resident Mane Master Jen Atkin told Elle that when it comes to hair-drying, you should ditch your terrycloth towel turban? I do, and I have three words for it: total game changer.
“I always suggest my clients dry their hair with an old cotton t-shirt instead of a towel after they shower. Wet strands are much more fragile and prone to breakage, and the harsh fibers of a towel can be too aggressive,” were Jen’s words.
I remember reading the quote and literally making that small change the very same day (I have more old cotton tees lying around than I’d like to admit). It’s been three months since and I’m not kidding—I haven’t looked back since. Even when I travel, I bring an old tee with me. With cotton, my hair dries smoother and shinier and I have noticeably less frizz and less breakage. I swear I’m not exaggerating!
If you don’t want to go the cotton tee route (I now own this cute one which is specifically for my hair), there are a few other options that will produce similar results. Try a micro-fiber towel, like the ones from DevaCurl and Aquis or a super-chic 100% Cotton Turkish Towel.
Also… I do not miss that skin-stretching feeling you get around your eyes and forehead when you’re wearing a heavy towel on your head. Plus, I’m pretty sure that counteracts the benefits of even the most expensive anti-aging creams…not cool.
