Jeremy Allen White has cemented his status as a TV icon, thanks to his latest role as Carmy in Hulu’s The Bear—a show we cannot stop talking about, in large part due to White’s character. Carmy is an NYC chef who’s back home to take the reins of his recently deceased brother’s Chicago beef biz, with plenty of unresolved trauma to boot. At first glance, he’s full of tattoos and looks like he hasn’t touched a shampoo bottle in a week. But stick with it and Carm’s signature coif becomes perfectly tousled, textured, and a total thirst trap for everyone who has ever felt compelled to fix an emotionally damaged prodigy. Yes, chef—the hair works.
So while the Shameless alum is no stranger to taking on parts that deeply resonate with their audience, his character of Carmy has allowed him to embrace a new role—hair icon. Of course, it’s not only Carmy getting the attention for having some of the best strands on TV, White’s long hairstyle is inspiring men everywhere to learn how to get the look. If you’re one of them, you’re in luck—we reached out to White’s hairstylist, Jessica Ortiz, to get the step-by-step on how to achieve Jeremy Allen White’s tousled texture on your own hair. How to Get Jeremy Allen White’s Tousled Texture, Step-by-Step
Before diving into the steps, Ortiz does note this look “is ideal for wavy to loose curly hair.” Those with straight hair may have a tougher time achieving this look. After all, Oritz mentions “the key is to let the waves do what they do naturally and embrace it.”
Step 1: Start with damp hair.
In getting the tousled texture, you want to start with damp hair. Ortiz shares you can either be fresh out of the shower or mist your hair with some water. Either way, it should be damp.
Step 2: Detangle.
Once your hair is damp enough, it’s time to detangle. “I like to detangle it with a wide-tooth comb and a dime-size drop of Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Lotion to heat protect and fight frizz,” Ortiz says.

Step 3: Apply texture spray and diffuse.
Now that the hair is detangled, it’s time to spritz on some texture spray. Ortiz uses the Authentic Beauty Concept Beach Texture Spray, which she notes is “a lightweight sea salt spray that adds texture and volume.”
After it is sprayed throughout the hair, it’s time to diffuse—this is where the magic happens. “Diffusing the product into the hair is what gives the defined waves that really hold,” Ortiz notes. “Don’t move the hair while diffusing, just lightly finger curl, framing the face, and lift the front pieces around the crown to give the roots volume.” She shares that “this step is crucial because you don’t want to dry the hair all the way.”

Step 4: Scrunch.
Time for a little scrunching of the mane. “Once I get the level of texture I want, I gingerly scrunch Authentic Beauty Concept’s Nourishing Hair Oil on the ends to smooth and boost shine,” Ortiz says. A little hair oil goes a long way with this look.

Step 5: Style and shape.
“To take the style to a more groomed but lived-in look after I add the oil, I shape up the more unruly texture with the Authentic Beauty Concept Shaping Cream, a styling cream with medium hold,” notes Ortiz. She’s a big fan of this product for completing the look because “ it contains shea butter and wax, which is what gives the product its shapeable hold.” The final step is to loosely shape the tousled texture into place using a wide-tooth comb.

Step 6: Maintenance.
Though this is a more optional step in the process, it’s important to know how to maintain this style. You don’t want it to fall flat after putting in all that work, do you? Ortiz lets us know that it “can be maintained by only shampooing once a week and using a conditioner every time you rinse between washes.” She likes the Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Spray Conditioner “to restore moisture when starting from dry hair and to restore the natural curl pattern for added manageability to restyle” the look.
