5 Hair Ribbons That Prove They're Fall's “It” Accessory

Written by Hannah Cassidy

They’re feminine, soft, somehow both understated and a statement at the same time…oh, and they’re everywhere right now. Hair ribbons and hair bows are making their way down NYFW runways, down the aisle, and down our daily IG scroll with zero signs of slowing down. Best part? They’re incredibly easy to pull off, which only adds to their popularity.

But the rise of hair ribbon styles can also be seen as the by-product of everyone itching to break out of the usual hair ruts. “Bows are a classic and post-pandemic women are looking to get more dressed up,” explains celebrity and bridal stylist Micaela Erlanger—who recently launched a ribbon-laden capsule collection with accessory retailer Jennifer Behr. “When I see a bow it gives me instant joy,” adds Erlanger. And honestly, same.

If you want to get in on the hair ribbon trend (who doesn’t!?), we’re rounding up our favorite bows below so you can officially claim this season’s “it” accessory as your own.

Barbiecore Pink

If you’re not already a fan of Room Shop, you will be soon. Their candy-colored “bounce” bags (yes, they’re actually bouncy!), oversized-in-all-the-right-ways hair accessories, and curated vintage drops are worth setting alarms for. And seeing as pink is heavily trending at the moment, it’s the perfect time to snag their bubblegum pink hair bow. Just pair with lengthy braids, major volume, or low ponytails—you can’t go wrong.

Slouchy Velvet

Sydney Sweeney turned heads at the 2022 Venice Film Festival rocking this velvet hair bow from Jennifer Behr on the red carpet. Both comfy and chic, we love how versatile this accessory is. Rock it with your hair’s natural texture, denim, and a cardigan for a French girl-approved style, or dress it up for a night out with brushed curls and a slip dress.

Bridal Bow

If you’re planning a wedding, you’ve probably noticed hair ribbons and bows floating around all the bridal inspo out there. Erlanger is all in on the trend: “For a bride, I could see it being the statement accessory with hair pulled back half up or in a bow. Most recently we styled a bow on top of a veil and it was divine!” Case in point: This headband from Kristen Ess Hair. It stealthily disappears into your hair, leaving the white ribbon and delicate netting of the veil to effortlessly float on top.

Sheer Ethereal

Slightly ruffled and whimsical, this hair ribbon barrette effortlessly complements a cottagecore dress. Alternatively, you can use the hair bow as a feminine contrast to grungier styles like leather jackets, combat boots, and chunky silver accessories. (Bonus points: It’s a season-less staple that can be worn year-round.)

Claw Clip-Hair Bow Hybrid

Trust us—every accessory arsenal needs this ingenious hair clip from BaubleBar. It’s part hair bow, part claw clip, and totally easy to wear. Twist your hair and clamp on for a pulled together in a pinch style or section and gather hair into a half-up, half-down look.

Speaking of claw clips, looking for some strong-hold options? HERE are eight options that stand up to the thickest of strands.
