Spring/Summer 2024 Haircut Trends

Kitty Cut

Consider this chop the wolf cut’s cleaner cousin. While the two share similarities, “The kitty cut is a little bit longer,” says Australia-based hair stylist Pauline McCabe, who owns Rock Paper Scissors hair studio in Perth. “It’s so cool and wearable, and was seen on all the cool girls at Paris and London Fashion Week.”

Jaw-Length Bob

This cutting-edge head-turner may not be for everyone, but if you have the face shape for it (ahem, Hailey Bieber), we’re major supporters.
“The jaw-length bob is sharp and ultra cool,” McCabe says. “It's almost a short haircut. If tucked behind the ears it gives a certain Winona forever vibe.”

Italian Bob

In case you haven’t noticed, bobs are very much the vibe among spring 2024 hair trends. Of all the looks to have on your radar, look to none other than the classic, iconic Italian bob—a short, traditional blunt cut that features minimal layers.
“The Italian bob is really having a moment,” McCabe says. “It’s so sexy, cool, and easy to wear, embracing natural texture and movement.”

Choppy Chin-Length Bob

In Florence we trust! The queen of effortless did her thing once again at the 2024 Oscars, donning this ever-so-stylish look.

“For those looking for a literal cooler way to wear your hair in the warmer months, this is a clear winner to me,” celebrity hair stylist Chaz Dean says. “The movement and texture in this cut lends itself to a variety of styling options. You can blow out smooth for a chic look, add some soft waves with foam rollers, or just let air dry and scrunch with a texture spray for an easy beach-wave look.”

Shaggy Layers

It’s the cut you can wear effortlessly.

“Shaggy layers accompanied by a heavy, textured fringe showcases so much about your personality,” Dean says of the look sported by TikTok beauty guru Danielle Marcan. “It's fun, can be a little edgy, and also styled beautifully for a night out. Even on your laziest hair days, it still looks amazing.”

Spring/Summer 2024 Hair Color Trends

Whipped Butter Blonde

When you’re transitioning from spring to summer, this is the most versatile blonde option, according to Aussie colorist Faye Redfern. All you need are micro babylights for a seamless transition.

“Adding warmth to your hair adds a boost of radiance around your face,” she says. “This is the most requested blonde in my salon.”

Cinnamon Brunette

Rich girl brunette is still very much a thing, and Redfern says this is the most up-to-date version of the shade.

“Adding a small amount of golden copper to your brunette will add luminosity for that spring rich girl hair,” she says. “We’re seeing more people wanting to experiment with different tones.”

Honeycomb Lights

Is your hair looking a little dull? Spice things up by adding flecks of honeycomb into your brown strands. This is recommended by Redfern because “it will add soft, sun-kissed dimension for the warmer months,” she says. “We’re seeing more clients embrace warmth.”

She recommends this for natural brunettes looking to add subtle variation for summer that they can build on.

Vintage Blonde

Vintage never goes out of style, and that applies to hair colors, too!

“We’re seeing more people wanting that wow factor hair, and this definitely fits the bill,” Redfern says. “The retro shade of blonde and traditional application brings an element of old school glamour.”

However, she advises this shade isn’t for everyone, and encourages it for fair complexions (who are down for high-maintenance care).

Amber Ginger

We saw cowgirl copper dominate our feeds in 2023, so here we have amber ginger, which is its 2024 upgrade. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart—but if you have a fair complexion like Meredith Duxbury (pictured), it’s a total no-brainer.
“This is the color every natural copper should try during spring and summer,” Redfern says. “You’ll want to add more vibrancy transitioning into summer.”

French Twist

Did someone say effortlessly chic?

“The French twist is a classic style that can be messy or polished,” says celebrity hair stylist Sophia Porter. “Both styles are very chic and work for people with any sort of bangs. You can put your hair up with a claw clip for a quick, stylish daily look.”

Curly Bob

What do you get when you combine two of the biggest trends of the moment? A curly bob, of course!

“This can be adapted in many ways to suit anyone’s style, hair texture, and features,” Porter says. “It can be worn long or short, blunt or with lived-in ends.”

Polished Ponytails

Ponytails never really went anywhere, but there’s been a rise in sleek and chic styles, likely to match the quiet luxury trend.

“Based off the runway this last season, polished ponytails are in and will be great for summer,” Porter says. “We’re seeing them in super long lengths as well as moderate length, base wrapped with hair and sometimes a tight braid.”

Curtain Bangs

Did you make the big chop in 2023? Don’t worry, curtain bangs are still a vibe, according to Porter.

“They’re still very popular because they frame the face in an effortlessly chic way,” she says. “Curtain bangs look great with hair pulled back or up, to create a soft look.”

Long, Luscious, ‘90s-Inspired

We may be all up in our Y2K nostalgia, but there’s still a hint of ‘90s flair in the air. This is according to Dean.

“Long, voluminous, lived-in, refined ‘90s hair is such a classic look that I’m seeing all over social media,” he says. “It gives an effortless vibe, and works great for 20-year-olds and up. The endless style versatility, along with subtle pops of high and lowlights makes this a highly desired look this coming spring and summer season.”
